okay so i've been flying stabilized for about a year and a half, got pretty comfortable with my freestyle lines in acro assist mode but every time i switch to full manual on the simulator i feel like a complete beginner again. been grinding betaflight on velocidrone maybe 3-4 times a week for the past month and i feel like im not improving as fast as i expected. not sure if its my rates or the sim physics or im just approaching this wrong.

my rates are basically whatever came default on the wizard x220 i borrowed from a friend to mess around with, never really tuned them. should i be dialing those down to learn or is suffering through high rates just part of the process. i've seen people say both things and its frustrating because the advice seems to contradict itself a lot

lower rates to learn, full stop. anyone telling you to suffer through high rates as a beginner is just gatekeeping with extra steps. the whole point early on is to build muscle memory for the relationship between stick input and aircraft response and you cant do that if tiny inputs are sending the quad into a death spiral. i'd go something like 400 degrees/sec max on roll/pitch to start, get comfortable, then creep it up as the movements start feeling automatic. the wizards stock rates are probably way too spicy for where youre at right now.

yeah rates aside ? a month in the sim with consistent practice is honestly not that long even if it feels like it should be. the click where it starts feeling intuitive took me closer to 2.5 months of daily sessions and then it kind of just happened all at once. also velocidrone physics are decent but some people find liftoff or fpv.skydive a bit more forgiving to learn on, might be worth switching sims for a few sessions just to see if somthing clicks differently. sim physics vary more than people admit.
