ok so i signed up for a local MultiGP qualifier basically on a dare from a buddy and now its actually happening saturday and im kind of freaking out a little. ive been flying for about 8 months, mostly freestyle but ive been practicing racing lines for the past couple months and im not embarrassingly slow or anything. running a 5 inch on Betaflight, rates are dialed in the way i like them, freestyle-ish but not insane.

my question is less about flying and more about just like, what do i actually bring, what do i do when i get there, how does tech inspection usually work because ive never done it. do i need to change anything about my setup for a sanctioned race or can i basically just show up with what i have. also is there anything that commonly fails tech inspection that i should check beforehand because i dont want to get there and have some dumb thing disqualify me before i even fly

tech inspection for MultiGP is usually pretty chill at the local level, they check video transmitter power and that youre on the right frequency, make sure your quad is under the weight limit if its a class race, and sometimes check motor size depending on the event class. bring your frequency card or just know what vtx channel youre on. a lot of guys forget that part and it holds up the line.

honestly the biggest thing people dont prep for is batteries. bring way more than you think you need. qualifying rounds go fast and youll want to put in as many practice laps as you can between rounds. also dont change anything major about your setup the night before, like seriously dont. fly what you know. your freestyle rates might feel a little loose on tight gates but youll adapt way faster than you would to unfamiliar tune.

dont stress too much, first race is basically just about not crashing into other peoples stuff and having fun. everyone was a first timer once and most local scenes are pretty welcoming. you might get smoked in the heats and thats fine, just pay attention to the faster guys lines through the technical sections, you learn more watching one good pilot for 20 minutes than you do from a month of solo practice
