so ive been wanting to get into drones for like a year now but every time i try to look it up i just get overwhelmed with all the options and specs and i dont even know what half the stuff means. my budget is probably around 300-400 dollars maybe a bit more if something is really worth it. i mostly just want to fly around outside and maybe take some decent video, nothing professional. do i need to register it? do i need a license? theres so many questions i dont even know where to start honestly

okay so the registration thing depends on where you are but in the US if its over 250g you gotta register with the FAA, its like 5 bucks and takes 10 minutes so dont stress about that part. for a first drone in your budget honestly the DJI Mini 4 is the obvious answer but if you want to save some money the Mini 2 SE still holds up pretty well and you can find them cheaper now. the license (part 107) is only if you want to fly commercially, for recreational you just need to pass a free online test called TRUST, takes maybe 20 minutes

i'd honestly say start with something cheaper before committing to a DJI, like one of those little indoor whoops or even a Ryze Tello just to get the hang of the controls. i crashed my first real drone into a tree within the first week because i had no idea what i was doing and it hurt watching that thing fall. once you get the muscle memory down then drop the money on something nice
