so ive been flying whoops for about a year and finally decided to step up to a proper 5inch freestyle build. got a Mark4 frame coming in the mail and ive been trying to figure out the electronics stack. everywhere i look people are recommending different things and im starting to second guess everything i thought i knew.

right now im looking at the Aikon AK32 35A 4in1 ESC but im not sure if thats going to be enough headroom for the motors i want. i was originally thinking 2306 2450kv motors on 6S but some people in my local group are saying i should go 2207 instead for freestyle. does motor size actually matter that much or is this just people being opinionated about stuff that doesnt really matter in practice

also completely separate issue but im a bit nervous about the soldering side. ive done basic stuff on wiring looms for RC cars but never done a full stack before. any tips for not destroying a 4in1 ESC the first time i touch it would be great. my iron is a Hakko FX-888D so at least i have decent gear for that part.

the 35A on 6S with 2306 motors is going to be fine for freestyle unless you're doing super aggressive stuff with high pitch props. honestly the bigger concern is just making sure your capacitors are sorted ? a lot of people skip adding a low ESR cap to the battery lead on 4in1 builds and then wonder why their video feed looks like garbage or worse they get desyncs under hard braking.

on the motor debate just go 2306 2450kv, 2207 is more of a racing/efficiency thing in my experience. 2306 has a bit more punch in the mid range which is what you want for freestyle. either will work though and anyone telling you one is flat out wrong is probably just repeating what their favourite youtuber said three years ago.

hakko is solid btw. tin your pads before you try to solder anything, keep your temp around 350-380c for the motor pads, and don't hold the iron on longer than about 3 seconds at a time. 4in1s can take some heat but the pads will lift if you really lean on them.

i went through basically the exact same decision like 6 months ago lol. ended up going 2207 2450kv on 4S instead of 6S because i was scared of the power and honestly for learning freestyle it was probably the right call. less consequence when you crash, which you will, a lot.

no real advice on the ESC stuff cause i just copied a build guide but just wanted to say the mark4 is a great first 5inch frame. really solid arms, mine survived some pretty nasty concrete meetings.
