Avata 2 vs original Avata ? is the upgrade actually worth it for indoor flying

  • Members

So ive had the original Avata for about a year now and mostly use it for tight indoor spaces, warehouses, some light cinematic stuff outside. It's been solid honestly, no major complaints except the range has bitten me a couple times when flying in areas with a lot of RF interference.

My buddy just got the Avata 2 and let me fly it for like 20 minutes last weekend and I genuinely couldnt decide if the difference was worth the price jump. Image quality felt better, the stabilization was noticeably smoother in manual mode, and the new goggles 3 integration feels way cleaner than the old setup. But for indoor stuff specifically, I keep wondering if im really going to notice enough of a difference day to day to justify spending the money.

Anyone who's actually owned both and flown them indoors a decent amount ? what do you actually think? Not looking for spec sheet comparisons, I can read those myself.

Honestly I had the same question for a long time and finally pulled the trigger on the 2 about 3 months ago. The thing that actually sold me wasnt the image quality or any of that ? it was the obstacle avoidance being genuinely usable in manual mode now. Like it doesnt just hard stop you, it actually feels more like a soft warning and you can push through it if you know what youre doing. For indoor flying in cluttered spaces that alone has saved me probably twice already.

That said if youre happy with the footage you're getting from the original and youre not running into the range issues constantly, you could probably hold off. The upgrade is real but its not night and day in every situation.

the fan noise is way better on the 2 as well, original Avata drove me absolutely insane when reviewing footage and you could hear that high pitched whine in quiet environments. might not matter for warehouse stuff but if you ever do anything where ambient sound matters it's worth mentioning
