yeah so that happened. got a 68 which is just. ugh. two questions away from passing and i genuinely thought i was ready. been studying for about a month using one of those paid courses, wont say which one but it rhymes with shmua quadcopter academy. anyway

looking back i think i spent way too much time on the stuff i already knew like basic drone regs and not enough on the sectional charts. there was a question about reading a VOR and i just completely blanked, had no idea what i was even looking at. and there were like three or four weather questions that were worded in a way that felt kind of tricky, not straightforward at all.

has anyone retaken it and like what did you actually do differently the second time. i can retest after 14 days right? trying to figure out if i should just book it asap or actually take a few weeks to fill in the gaps

68 is rough but honestly you're close enough that a couple more weeks focused on the weak spots should do it. yes 14 days is the wait period. when i retook mine (first attempt i got a 66, eerily similar) i basically just zeroed in on the chart stuff and weather. the VOR questions are annoying because they seem super old school for drone flying but the faa doesn't care, its still on there.

what helped me was printing out actual sectional chart excerpts and just quizzing myself on them away from the computer. something about having it on paper made it stick better for me personally. also look up the FAA's explanation for any practice question you get wrong, not just the right answer but WHY its right, that made a huge difference for the trickier weather stuff

take the extra weeks dont rush it. 14 days is the minimum but theres no prize for going back the second the clock runs out and failing again lol. the test fee isnt cheap either so

the weather interpretation questions are genuinely the sneakiest part imo, METARs and TAFs look intimidating but once you just learn to decode them piece by piece it becomes pretty mechanical. theres a decode chart that basically walks you through every abbreviation and if you just get comfortable with that format the questions arent that bad. good luck on the retake
