Air 3 vs Air 3S ? is the upgrade actually worth it for casual weekend flying

  • Members

so ive had my Air 3 for about a year and a half now and honestly love it, no real complaints. but ive been seeing a lot of talk about the Air 3S and the low light stuff looks genuinely impressive in some of the footage ive seen on youtube. the problem is im not shooting anything professional, just weekend trips, some hiking, occasional beach stuff with friends. nothing that really demands incredible low light performance.

my question is basically ? for someone who isnt monetizing this at all and just wants nice looking video to keep or share with family, is there actually a reason to upgrade or am i just getting sucked into the gear upgrade spiral again. my Air 3 footage looks great to me but maybe im not seeing what im missing. anyone made this jump and have thoughts either way

honestly i went through the exact same thing last winter and ended up keeping my Air 3. watched like 40 side by side comparison videos and yeah the low light on the 3S is noticeably better but i fly mostly during golden hour anyway so it just wasnt relevant to my shooting. the sensor upgrade is real but if your current footage looks good to you and youre not shooting in tricky lighting conditions all the time, i cant imagine the difference would change your life. save the money for a trip somewhere cool to fly instead, thats my take

i just got the Air 3S a couple months ago as my first drone actually so i cant really compare directly but the low light thing is legit, took it out at dusk last week at this lake near my house and the footage came out way better than i expected. that said i have no idea how the Air 3 would have done in the same conditions so maybe im not the best person to answer this lol. the RC 2 controller that comes with it is pretty nice though if thats any help
