this has been bugging me for a while and i cant figure out if its a settings thing or something else. basically i get these weird banding artifacts in the sky portions of my footage, like horizontal lines that are slightly different shades. doesnt happen every flight, seems more common when its a really clear blue sky with no clouds. shooting in D-Log M mostly, 4k 30fps. ive messed with the shutter speed and ND filters but cant nail down if thats actually the fix or if im just getting lucky on certain days.

anyone run into this before, would love to know if theres an actual cause because right now its pretty random feeling

yeah this is almost certainly a shutter speed issue combined with your ND filter situation. banding in clear skies with log footage is really common when your shutter isnt following the 180 degree rule properly. clear blue skies are basically the worst case scenario for this because theres so much even tone across the frame and any unevenness gets amplified. try bumping your ND up a stop and make sure your shutter is exactly double your frame rate so 1/60 for 30fps. also make sure youre not in auto ISO when this happens, that can cause it too

had the exact same thing happen on a trip last summer, drove me crazy for weeks. for me it turned out to be a combo of shooting into the sun at certain angles and using the polarizer ND i had on at the time. polarizers on drones can sometimes create really weird banding depending on the rotation. took it off and the problem basically went away. might not be your issue but worth checking if youre using one of those
