been meaning to write this up for a while. i came to the DJI FPV from flying a 5 inch freestyle build for about two years so i wasnt coming in as a total beginner but i also wasnt sure what to expect from something so locked down compared to what i was used to. picked one up used with the motion controller included and i have some thoughts.

the image quality through the goggles is genuinely really good, better than my HDZero setup at least in terms of latency feeling smooth and the picture being clean in most conditions. manual mode is honestly decent once you strip out the horizon leveling, not as snappy as a properly tuned Betaflight quad but for what it is its fine. the thing that bugs me most is how little you can actually tune. coming from Betaflight where you can tweak literally everything its frustrating to hit that wall.

the motion controller is a gimmick in my opinion, fun for like 20 minutes then you realize it limits what you can do. the RC controller that came with it is way better. battery life is whatever, about the same as my 6s builds maybe slightly worse. overall though if someone who flies real FPV asked me if they should bother id say maybe? its a good travel drone because its all one ecosystem and nothing needs configuring but its not going to replace a proper build. curious if anyone else made the same jump and what they thought

pretty much agree on the motion controller, used it twice and put it in a drawer. but i'd push back a little on the tuning thing ? for most people flying it the defaults are actually pretty well sorted and the fact that you cant break it by flashing bad firmware or misconfiguring a filter is probably a net positive for the target audience. i think the problem is guys like us are just not the target audience for it, we're going to find it limiting no matter what.

one thing you didnt mention is the flight modes and how the normal/sport/manual modes actually feel pretty distinct from each other. using it in normal mode for filming stuff is genuinely useful, i've gotten some shots with it that would have been a nightmare to get on a freestyle quad just because the stabilization handles a lot of the work. so for me it fills a different role than my 5inch does rather than competing with it.

the avata is probaly more worth it than the original FPV drone at this point if your just getting into it, better form factor and the O3 video is cleaner imo. but yeah if youre already into proper fpv neither of them really make sense unless you want something low maintainence for trips
