so anyway i finally got around to doing a proper RPM filter tune on my custom 5inch and then went back and flew my Cinelog 35 which i havent touched in a while and the difference was pretty stark. the cinelog felt kind of sloppy and vague on the sticks in comparison, like there was this latency or mushiness that i dont notice on my build.

but here is the thing ? i havent really touched the tune on the cinelog since i got it. its basically running whatever flywoo ships it with plus a few small p and d adjustments i made like six months ago. so im wondering if the issue is just that prebuilt tunes are conservative by design (probably to avoid burning motors for people who dont know what theyre doing) or if theres something more fundamental about how these hd whoops handle differently.

has anyone done a serious tune overhaul on a cinelog or similar prebuilt and actually gotten it to feel comparable to a well-tuned custom? curious if its worth the time or if the hardware limitations are the real ceiling here.

yeah prebuilt tunes are almost always deliberately soft, its a liability thing basically. they need it to work for someone who has never touched betaflight and also not smoke the motors on a guy who pins throttle on the ground. so you end up with this middle ground that feels like flying through syrup if youre used to something dialed in.

i did a full tune on a cinelog 25 a while back, went through the whole blackbox process, proper rpm filter setup, adjusted the feedforward to be a bit snappier and it came out feeling genuinely good. not identical to a dedicated freestyle build obviously because the prop guards and the weight distribution are just different, but night and day vs stock. totally worth doing if you plan to keep the quad. give yourself a few sessions with blackbox analyzer and youll get there.

honestly i think part of it is also just expectation bias, you tune your custom build exactly to how you fly and then compare it to something you havent touched, of course its gonna feel worse. that said i do think the stock filters on most prebuilts are way too conservative and that alone adds perceivable delay. never flown a cinelog specifically but same thing happened when i finally tuned my borrowed Mobula8, thing transformed completely.
