so ive been flying for maybe 3 weeks now and my drone kind of drifts slowly in one direction whenever i take my hands off the controls. its not a lot but enough to be annoying, especially when im trying to hold a shot. i calibrated the compass before my last flight i think. its a holy stone hs720 by the way. is this just something you have to deal with or is there a fix. also the wind wasnt bad when this happened so i dont think thats it

have you calibrated the IMU not just the compass? those are two different things and people mix them up all the time. the compass calibration is the one where you spin it around, the IMU calibration you usually do on a flat surface with the drone sitting still. if the IMU is off it can cause exactly what youre describing. check the holy stone app or manual for how to do it, should be in the settings somewhere

honestly some drift in GPS hold is just kinda normal with cheaper drones, the positioning isnt as tight as something like a mini 3 or mavic. that said yeah try the IMU thing the other guy mentioned. also worth checking if any of the propellers have like a small nick or chip in them, even a tiny bit of damage can cause weird behavior. i had a holy stone a while back and it was pretty decent but the GPS wasnt super precise compared to dji stuff, you kind of accept that at that price point
