so ive been flying my avata 2 for about 8 months now and wind is still the thing that messes me up the most. not crashing exactly, just like... i never know when to trust the situation and when to just bring it home. yesterday had gusts maybe 15-18mph and it was holding position fine in GPS mode but every time i tried to do any kind of smooth arc or orbit shot the thing was fighting it the whole time and the footage was basically garbage anyway.

my question is more about the skill side of it i guess. is there a point where you kinda develop a feel for what the craft can actually handle vs what the specs say, because the manual says up to 26mph wind resistance or whatever but that doesnt really mean you can fly creatively in that, right? feels like two totally different things. also been trying to learn manual acro stuff in calmer conditions and im wondering if that actually helps you handle wind better eventually or if theyre pretty unrelated skills

yeah the spec number is basically just "it wont fall out of the sky" not "you can do anything useful in this". i fly a lot of coastal stuff and anything above 12mph and im just doing simple slow pushes into the wind or pulling back from it, anything lateral looks like trash because the craft is constantly correcting and you can see it in the footage even after stabilization.

the acro thing though, yes absolutely it helps. not because wind and acro are the same thing but because you start to actually understand how the quad responds to inputs when something external is pushing on it. you get way better at anticipating instead of just reacting. took me probably 3 months of sim time before it clicked for me in real conditions but it does transfer.

i just land when it stops being fun honestly. like if im fighting it more than im flying it whats the point. lost a mavic mini 2 in wind two years ago (not to a crash, to fly-away that i still think was wind related plus maybe a compass thing) and now i have a pretty low tolerance for sketchy conditions lol
