been at this for a few weeks now. i know the theory, yaw one way, roll the other, keep the subject centered. but every time i try to do it in manual the circle comes out super egg shaped and the altitude drifts and i feel like im just making tiny corrections the entire time instead of it being one smooth thing. using a DJI RC controller on my mini 4 pro btw.

i switched off the automated quickshot version because i wanted to actually learn the skill and not just push a button, but maybe that was dumb and i should just use the automated one for actual shoots and keep practicing manual for the sake of it. idk. someone at my local club said to practice figure 8s first because it trains the same coordination but i havent tried that yet

the figure 8 advice is solid, do that. but also your altitude drift is probably becasue youre not giving it enough attention on the throttle ? when youre concentrating on the yaw/roll coordination your brain just drops the throttle input entirely. try practicing just circles at a fixed distance from a tree or a pole in completely calm wind and actively think about throttle as its own separate thing. it feels stupid but after a few sessions it starts to become background noise and you can focus on the shape of the orbit.

also slow way down. like way slower than you think. smooth slow orbits look ten times better in footage anyway and theyre much easier to keep consistent while youre learning the muscle memory

honestly the quickshot orbit isnt even that good for actual professional looking footage, theres always something slightly off about how it handles obstacles or adjusts. learning the manual version is worth it even if it takes a while. i probably spent a month on orbits alone before they looked decent. just keep at it
