ok so i bought a DJI Mini 4 Pro like two weeks ago and ive been too scared to actually fly it. i watched a bunch of youtube videos and now i think i know even less than before because everyone says different stuff. one guy says you absolutely have to calibrate the compass every single time, another guy says never calibrate unless something is wrong. i dont even know where to start honestly.

also is there like a safe place to practice? i live kinda close to a small regional airport and i downloaded the app but all the zones are confusing to me. some are red some are yellow and i just dont want to get in trouble or crash into a plane obviously. any advice would be great, im not totally clueless i just need someone to point me in the right direction i guess

the compass calibration thing trips everyone up at first. short answer is you dont need to do it every flight, the drone will actually tell you if it needs one ? you'll get a warning in the app. if you start getting weird toilet bowl effect during hover or it just acts squirrely then yeah calibrate. but doing it every single time in the same spot is kind of pointless and some people think it can actually introduce errors if you do it near metal stuff like your car.

for the airspace stuff, B4UFLY is actually pretty straightforward once you get used to it, but honestly for a Mini 4 Pro you're gonna want to look into LAANC authorization if you need to fly in controlled airspace. the yellow zones usually mean you can self-authorize through apps like Aloft or just through DJI's fly app directly. red is a hard no. just find a big open park away from the airport to start, seriously you dont need to complicate it yet, just get comfortable with the sticks first before worrying about all that.

i was in the exact same spot like 6 months ago lol. what helped me was just going out to an empty field early in the morning when nobody is around and doing like altitude holds and just hovering for a while. sounds boring but honestly it built my confidence way faster than trying to do anything fancy. i crashed mine on the third flight trying to do a tracking shot or whatever and the gimbal got messed up so yeah just fly boring for a while trust me
