first proper 5inch build ? confused about ESC/motor combo

  • Members

ok so ive been flying whoops for about a year and finally decided to do a proper 5inch freestyle build. got a Botgrinder frame (the B3 mini) and im picking parts but im getting kind of lost on the ESC and motor pairing situation.

running Xing2 2507 1800kv motors and i keep seeing people say to run a 45A ESC but then other people say 40A is fine and you'll never actually pull that on 6S anyway. like i get that burst current is what matters but i genuinely dont know where the line is for a 5inch freestyle setup. not doing racing, just park stuff and maybe some light woods flying eventually.

also im on a Mamba F7 stack right now because i got a decent deal on one but now im second guessing if i should've gone with something else. is there a reason people dont talk about Mamba stacks as much anymore? did i mess up

Mamba stacks are fine, people just get weird about brands on here. the F7 specifically has had some issues with certain firmware versions and BLHeli32 on the ESC side but nothing you cant work around

yeah what he said about the amps. also just curious what FC you ended up with in that Mamba stack, is it the 722 or the older one? asking because i had the older F7 and the UART situation was kind of

Mamba stacks are fine, people just get weird about brands on here. the F7 specifically has had some issues with certain firmware versions and BLHeli32 on the ESC side but nothing you cant work around with a bit of googling. for park freestyle you're not going to stress test anything anyway.

on the motor/ESC question ? 40A is genuinely fine for 2507s on 6S doing freestyle. you'd have to be pinning it constantly in a very aggressive way to come close to the limit and even then the burst headroom on a good 40A ESC is usually 50-55A for short spikes. i've run that combo for a while with zero pops. just make sure whatever ESC you get has proper dampened light mode or RPM filtering if you're running BF because that makes a bigger difference than the amp rating honestly.
