Avata 2 vs original Avata ? is the upgrade actually worth it

  • Members

so ive been flying the original Avata for about a year and a half now, mostly indoor stuff and some tight outdoor spots, and i'm genuinely torn on whether to sell it and grab the Avata 2. on paper the improvements look real ? better transmission, the new O4 video link, slightly better camera with that wider aperture, and honestly the prop guard design looks more solid too. but like, the original Avata still rips. i dont know if im just bored or if theres actually a meaningful real-world difference when youre flying through a parking garage or weaving trees.

the thing that gets me is the goggles situation. ive already got the Goggles 2 and if i go Avata 2 im basically set, but half my crew is still on V2 goggles and i keep hearing the latency difference between O3 and O4 is noticeable once you've flown both. anyone actually done a direct comparison? not looking for spec sheet stuff, just like... does it feel different when youre actually flying it.

honestly the O4 latency thing is real but i think people overstate it a bit. went from my old FPV drone on O3 to the Avata 2 and yeah its snappier feeling but it's not like night and day where i suddenly felt like a better pilot. the camera is the bigger deal imo, the low light is noticeably better and the color science just looks nicer straight out of the goggles. if youre happy with your footage from the OG avata though i dont know if id rush.

i just went through this exact thing lol. sold my original Avata + V2 goggles bundle and went full Avata 2 with Goggles 3 and honestly i dont regret it but it was expensive and the flying experience isnt dramatically different if im being honest. the prop guards on the 2 are way better for indoor stuff tho, they actually feel like they can take a hit. old ones would crack if you looked at them wrong
