so ive been planning this trip to iceland for like 6 months and im finally going. bringing my mini 3 pro obviously. ive done some research on the rules there but honestly a lot of the stuff i find online is from 2021 or whatever and im not sure how current it is. anyone actually flown there recently? specifically around the south coast, vatnajokull area, golden circle stuff.

also not sure how to handle the wind. ive heard it gets absolutely insane out there. my mini is rated for like 10.7m/s wind resistance or whatever and ive pushed it in some gusty conditions before but iceland seems like a different beast entirely

went last september and the wind is no joke man. lost my hat twice just standing on the ground near skogafoss. my mavic air 2 was struggling on a day that didnt even feel that bad to me. my advice is just check the Ust.is website thats the icelandic transport authority, they have a map with all the restricted zones and its actually pretty up to date. most of the areas you want to fly near are fine but some of the national park stuff gets tricky. i just avoided flying inside the actual park boundaries and had zero issues

also sunrise there is insane. like 4am in summer and the light is just absolutely mental. worth the early alarm

the wind there genuinely grounded me for two full days on my last trip. bring something heavier than a mini if you can, just saying. mini is fine for calm days but you will have days where its just not worth risking it
