Mavic Pro gimbal flex cable degradation - DIY repair vs replacement?

  • Members

My 3-year-old Mavic Pro developed the classic jerky gimbal startup issue last month. Mavic Pro and Platinum models frequently develop jerky startup movements after two years of regular use, with gimbal stutters through its self-test sequence often triggering motor overload warnings due to flex cable degradation. Video feed works fine but stabilization is completely shot.

I've confirmed it's the flex flat cable (FFC) which serves as the drone's stabilization nervous system - after 2+ years repeated movement causes microscopic breaks, particularly in Mavic Pro/Platinum models. Question: Has anyone successfully replaced just the ribbon cable, or is the complete gimbal camera arm assembly replacement ($45-50 on eBay) the only practical option? My soldering skills are decent but I'm wondering about the complexity.
