So ive had my Mini 3 Pro for about a year and a half now and honestly its been great, no real complaints. But i keep seeing the Mini 4 Pro pop up on sale and im starting to wonder if the upgrade makes sense. The omnidirectional obstacle avoidance is the main thing thats tempting me because i fly in some pretty tight spots around trees and i've had a few close calls that still give me anxiety just thinking about them.

Main stuff i shoot is slow cinematic stuff, occasional travel videos, nothing crazy fast or sporty. I dont race or do anything that needs insane speed. The footage from the Mini 3 looks really solid to me already so im not sure the sensor upgrade would even be noticeable in my use case. Anyone actually made this jump? Was it worth the extra couple hundred bucks or did you kind of regret it after the hype wore off?

Honestly went through exactly this same debate like 6 months ago and ended up keeping my Mini 3 Pro. The obstacle avoidance on the 4 Pro is genuinely better, i wont pretend otherwise, but for the kind of flying you're describing i dont think its going to transform your footage or anything. The low light improvement is real though, if you shoot at dusk or dawn a lot that might actually tip the scales for you.

The thing that kept me from pulling the trigger was that I'd basically be selling my Mini 3 at a loss and then spending another chunk on top to get features I'd use maybe 20% of the time. Your mileage may vary obviously but thats where i landed.

I upgraded and dont regret it but i also fly a lot more aggressively than what you're describing so the obstacle avoidance was a no brainer for me. For slow cinematic stuff around trees i'd probably just practice smoother approaches tbh, the active track on the 4 pro is nicer though if you do any subject tracking shots.
