ok so ive been flying DJI O3 goggles for about a year and a half now and honestly the video quality is insane, like i know everyone says that but coming from nothing its just ridiculous how clear it is. but the latency has been bugging me lately, especially when im doing tight gates at speed and i feel like im always half a frame behind or something. might be in my head but it feels real.

anyway my buddy runs a fat shark dominator v3 setup with an RX5808 module and some kind of clover leaf on the vtx and he keeps telling me the latency difference is night and day. i flew his quad once and yeah it did feel more immediate but the picture looked like... vaseline on a window compared to what im used to lol. so i guess my actual question is like is there a middle ground here. is there an analog setup that looks halfway decent or is it just a compromise you make for the lower latency. also what vtx wattage do i actually need for a medium sized park flying situation, he said 200mw but someone else told me 400mw is the minimum worth running

so the vaseline comment is pretty accurate honestly, i wont sugarcoat it. analog is never gonna match digital clarity, thats just physics at this point. but heres the thing ? a lot of the bad analog picture people see is down to garbage antennas more than anything else. if youre running a stock whip on the vtx and a stock patch on the goggles youre leaving a ton of resolution on the table. get a decent lhcp cloverleaf on the vtx and a pagoda or lumenier axii on the goggles and it actually looks pretty watchable, especially in good lighting. the noise floor drops a lot and the image sharpens up surprisingly.

on the wattage thing, 200mw is honestly fine for a park if you have line of sight and decent antennas. more power doesnt fix a bad antenna setup, it just throws more garbage signal further. the guys who swear by 600mw are usually running stock antennas and compensating. for racing specifically though youre gonna want a pit mode capable vtx so you arent blasting everyone elses feed when youre waiting on the line.

latency difference is real, not in your head. i went back to analog after two years on HDO2 and the first few packs i was like oh yeah this is why people race on analog still. that said the picture thing is a real tradeoff and i think it depends on what kind of flying you do. for me pure gates and freestyle i dont mind analog at all, for cruising around and actually enjoying scenery i always grab the digital quad.

also worth mentioning if youre committed to trying analog ? the goggles matter as much as the vtx. fat shark recon v3 is cheap and works but the screens are kinda dim and washed out. box goggles like the eachine ev800d actually have better screens for the money but obviously the form factor is different. just dont go all in on a full setup before you fly a few more packs on your buddys gear first
