my vtx signal keeps cutting out past like 80m and i cant figure out why

been dealing with this for three weeks now and its driving me insane. basically my quad loses video past maybe 80 meters or so, not completely but it gets so noisy it might as well be nothing. i can still fly it mostly by feel but thats obviously not ideal. ive already swapped the vtx once, went from a cheap matek to a rush tank and its the same deal. the quad itself is fine, rc link is rock solid way further out.

goggles are skyzone 04x with the stock antennas. vtx is set to 500mw on 5.8. i honestly dont know what else to check at this point

stock antennas on the 04x are genuinely terrible, like embarrasingly bad for what those goggles cost. this is almost certainly your problem. the stock omni that comes on them has really poor gain and the build quality is just meh. grab a pair of lumenier axii 2 in lhcp (make sure to match polarity with whatever youre running on the vtx side) and id bet your range triples overnight. also make sure your vtx antenna isnt zip tied against a carbon arm or tucked under a battery strap, carbon kills 5.8 signal hard.

yeah gonna second the antenna thing, also - are you sure the rush tank is actually outputting what it says? some of those vtx's have a known issue where the power setting in the osd doesnt match whats actually coming out, especially if youre powering it off a noisy BEC. worth checking with a spectrum analyzer if you have access to one, or even just asking at your local track if someoen has one. ive had two vtx units that were labeled 600mw and were barely doing 100 based on the analyzer reading. also what frequency are you on, ch1 on band A has way more interference in most areas than something like race band 7 or 8
