so ive been studying for about 6 weeks now and i feel like im decent on airspace but the weather stuff is still kind of fuzzy. like i get the basics of METAR reading but when it gets into the dewpoint spread and density altitude calculations i kind of zone out. been using sheppard air mostly and doing the practice tests on the faa site.

anyone have advice on what actually shows up on the test vs what i should stop stressing about? i keep seeing people say the actual test is way different from the practice questions and now im second guessing everything. also is it worth going to a testing center early to like, get settled in or do they just send you straight to the computer?

the weather section is honestly more straightforward on the actual test than the practice stuff makes it seem. they're not going to ask you to hand-calculate density altitude to the foot or anything crazy, more like conceptual stuff. if you understand that high altitude + high temp + high humidity = bad performance youre mostly fine.

the airspace questions were what got me, specifically the weird edge cases around class D and temporary flight restrictions. id spend more time on those if i were you. also yeah show up like 15 mins early, you have to do some ID stuff and there's a NDA to sign and then they walk you through the basic computer controls before you start the clock. nothing stressful just takes a few minutes.

i just passed like three weeks ago and honestly the sheppard air stuff is solid, just dont memorize the answers without understanding why. i made that mistake early on and then when the question was worded slightly differently i completely blanked. the real test felt familiar but not identical if that makes sense. good luck, it's not as bad as the forums make it sound
