so ive been putting this off for like a year and a half and i finally just booked the test at a PSI testing center near me. i've been going through the Pilot Institute course which has been pretty good honestly but im still not feeling super confident about the airspace stuff. like i get the basics but the sectional chart questions are what's really tripping me up. does anyone have a good way to practice reading those or is it just one of those things you kind of have to grind through until it clicks? also curious how much the actual test format differs from the practice exams, like are the questions worded the same or do they try to throw you off with weird phrasing.

the sectional stuff honestly just takes repetition, theres no shortcut. i printed out a few sectionals from skyvector and just spent evenings going through them with the FAA legend open on my phone. the ones in the test bank tend to focus on the same types of things ? class B/C/D airspace floors and ceilings, the little magenta circles, tower symbols ? once you see enough of them you start recognizing the patterns pretty fast. as for the test wording, some of it is pulled basically verbatim from the question bank that's been floating around, but they do shuffle the answer order and occasionally reword things slightly. the weather and loading questions threw me more than the airspace ones tbh, i kind of underestimated how much they'd lean on that stuff.

i just passed like three weeks ago and the airspace questions werent as bad as i expected, but i studied those religiously for like two weeks straight so maybe that's why. the Gleim test prep app has a ton of practice questions and it tracks which areas you're weak in which helped me a lot. also dont sleep on the actual FAA study guide PDF, some of the questions on my test were basically lifted word for word from it.
