so im heading to Iceland in about 5 weeks and obviously bringing the mavic. ive been reading up on the rules and honestly its kind of confusing. like technically you need to register with the icelandic transport authority but i cant figure out if thats only for commercial stuff or all drones. also the national parks thing seems strict but then i see tons of footage from inside vatnajokull and im like... did those people just ignore the rules or is there something im missing

anyone actually flown there recently and can tell me what the deal is in practice

went last september, honestly the rules are a bit of a mess to parse but from what i gathered recreational flying outside national park boundaries is generally fine as long as you stay below 120m and away from people. i didnt bother registering because my drone is under 250g. the wind is the real problem nobody talks about though, even on a "calm" day it was gusting like crazy near the coast and i almost lost it near vik

im not sure about iceland specifically but i think most of europe uses the EU drone regulations now so it might fall under that framework? someone correct me if im wrong. the open category stuff applies in a lot of places. def look up EASA rules as a starting point and then check what iceland specifically adds on top
