gimbal keeps drifting after firmware update, anyone else?

  • Members

so i updated the firmware on my air 3 last week and ever since then the gimbal has this slow drift to the left during longer shots, like anything over 10 seconds you can clearly see the horizon tilting. its subtle but once you notice it you cant unsee it in footage. didnt have this issue before the update at all.

ive done the gimbal calibration thing twice already through the app and it helps for maybe one flight and then its back. the weird thing is it only seems to do it when im in cine mode, normal mode seems fine or at least i havent caught it there yet. anyone dealt with this or know if DJI pushed a fix? im kind of hesitant to roll back firmware because of the whole no fly zone thing.

yeah i saw a few people mention this on the DJI forum too after that update, think it was the 01.01.0500 build or whatever the latest one was. the general advice i saw was to do a full IMU calibration on flat ground not just the gimbal cal, apparently the two are more linked than people realize and if the IMU drifts a little after an update it can show up as gimbal roll. worth trying before you give up and roll back.

also worth checking if your gimbal ribbon cable is seated properly, i know thats a hardware thing but ive seen drift issues that looked like firmware problems end up being a slightly loose cable that got knocked during transport or something. probably not your issue but worth a look.

had something similar on my mini 3 pro after an update a while back, not exactly the same but the gimbal was doing weird things. for me it just sort of fixed itself after two or three more flights honestly, like it stabilized or recalibrated on its own somehow. might just be worth flying it more before doing anything drastic
