is it even worth buying a prebuilt fpv quad anymore or just build your own

so ive been flying for about 3 years now, started on a tiny whoop and eventually moved up to a 5inch freestyle setup i built myself. my buddy just got into fpv and hes asking me whether he should just grab something like a DJI Avata or one of the BetaFPV prebuilts vs putting together a custom build. and honestly i dont even know what to tell him anymore because the gap between prebuilt quality and a proper custom build used to be huge but now im not so sure
like the Avata 2 is genuinely a solid piece of kit, the image quality is ridiculous and its basically plug and play with the goggles. but then you look at what you actually get for the price vs putting together a decent 5inch with a Walksnail or even analog and its a pretty different experience. i guess my question is more about what people are recommending to newer pilots these days because when i started everyone just said build your own and learn but im not convinced thats still the best advice for everyone
