trying to nail split S's consistently and i keep screwing up the entry

  • Members

this has been bugging me for like two months. my split S exits are fine, the bottom of the move feels okay, but the entry is a mess about half the time. i'll roll inverted and then either pull too early and lose all my speed before the dive or i hesitate and the nose just drops weird and the whole thing looks janky on the dvr. watching the footage is painful honestly.

im on a 5inch running relatively mid rates, nothing crazy. tried adjusting my roll speed a bit but didnt seem to make much difference. is this a timing thing, a rates thing, muscle memory thing? like what am i actually supposed to be focusing on during that roll to inverted phase because right now im just kind of winging it and hoping it works out.

timing thing 100%. the roll to inverted and the pull should basically feel like one connected motion, not two separate inputs. a lot of people do the roll, pause for a half second while their brain catches up, then pull ? and that pause is what kills it. try thinking of it as one diagonal input almost, like you're initiating the pull slightly before the roll even finishes. it'll feel wrong at first but watch your dvr and you'll see the difference immediately.

also what speed are you entering at? too slow going in and theres nothing to work with. i usually want to be carrying decent forward speed so the pull has something to arc through. if youre coming in slow the quad just kind of flops over instead of carving.

might be worth checking if your rates are actually the issue or if its just reps. two months sounds like a lot but split S is one of those moves where it clicks all at once after like your 500th attempt. i flew simulators specifically for this, just did split S over and over on velocidrone until it felt automatic and then transferring to real sticks was way easier. some people hate sim advice but for specific maneuver muscle memory its hard to argue with.
