Running a 5" on 4S and I'm torn between two different flying styles. Should I be using different PID settings for freestyle sessions vs when I hit the racing gates?

Currently on default Betaflight settings and it feels decent for both, but I'm wondering if I'm missing out. Read that freestyle pilots want higher D values for smoothness while racers prefer snappy, low D response.

Anyone actually run separate profiles for this? Or am I overthinking and should just stick with one solid tune that works for everything?

Profiles are perfect for this! You can save different PID sets and switch between them easily. I have one profile for smooth cinematic flying and another for aggressive freestyle. Racing definitely benefits from snappier response compared to buttery freestyle flow.

I tried running separate tunes but honestly found it more confusing than helpful. Freestyle pilots often prefer higher roll and yaw rates but lower pitch rates anyway, so maybe just find one good middle ground? Unless you're competing seriously, one solid tune should work fine.

Definitely worth experimenting! If you race and want snappy reactive response, keep D low. For freestyle smoothness, boost those D values. Start with small changes - maybe +5 on D for your freestyle profile and see how it feels. You might be surprised at the difference.
