so ive been flying the original Avata for about a year and a half now, mostly indoor stuff and tight outdoor spots, and im genuinely on the fence about whether to sell it and grab the Avata 2. the obstacle avoidance on the original is basically a joke in manual mode anyway so thats not really the selling point for me. what i care about is the image quality and how it handles in tight spaces.

from what ive seen the Avata 2 has better low light performance and the new propeller guard design supposedly reduces the prop wash artifact you'd get when hovering close to surfaces. anyone actually done a side by side? or even just switched over and noticed a real difference in day to day flying? the price gap is still pretty significant used vs new so trying to figure out if its a no-brainer or one of those spec-sheet upgrades that doesnt really show up in real world footage.

honestly i made the switch about 3 months ago and the low light thing is real, not just marketing. shot some stuff in a warehouse with pretty garbage lighting and the Avata 2 footage was actually usable without destroying it in post. the original would've been a noisy mess. the prop guard redesign does help a little with the wash but i wouldnt say its night and day, more like a minor improvement you notice when you're doing slow proximity stuff.

the goggles 3 integration is probably the bigger deal for me personally, the feed feels cleaner and the latency difference is noticeable once you've flown with it for a bit. if you're shooting anything you actually care about and you fly low light even occasionally i'd say yeah its worth it, but if you're happy with your current footage and mostly flying in daylight then maybe hold off a bit longer and see if the price drops more.

the obstacle avoidance comment is pretty accurate lol, its more of a confidence thing for beginners than actually useful in manual. i kept it on for like two weeks then turned it off permanently.
