so ive been flying a self built 5inch for about two years now, running expresslrs and a walksniper VTX setup, nothing crazy but it works and i know every part of it. my buddy keeps telling me to just grab a DJI O3 setup because the video quality is insane and honestly yeah the footage does look incredible compared to my analog. but i dunno, feels like im paying a massive premium just for the brand and the ecosystem lock-in. like what happens when they discontinue support or whatever

anyone actually made the switch from full custom analog to DJI digital and felt like it was genuinely worth the money, not just as a flex. im not a content creator or anything, mostly freestyle and the occasional long range cruise. curious if people who actually fly both setups day to day have opinions that arent just youtube sponsored takes

honestly i had the exact same hesitation. ran analog for like three years, built probably six or seven quads from scratch, really comfortable with the whole stack. then i borrowed a friends O3 setup for a weekend and just... didnt go back. the latency is genuinely not an issue for freestyle once you get used to it, and the image clarity on a bright day is ridiculous compared to even a good analog cam running caddx or runcam. the ecosystem thing is a real concern though, DJI has killed products before and itll happen again. if that keeps you up at night then maybe stick with HDzero or avatar which are at least a bit more open. but if youre okay with that risk the flying experience is just better for me personally

the lock-in is the thing that kills me about DJI. like yeah the goggles 2 picture is gorgeous but youre basically signing up to buy their whole chain forever. i tried switching to HDzero for a while and its gotten way better, latency is solid and the glasses fit my fat head which is a bonus. avatar (walksniper) is worth looking at too if you havent, some people swear by it for long range. not saying DJI is bad just that there are options that dont make you feel like youre renting your own gear from a tech company
