switching from phantom to evo 2 pro ? worth it or am i making a mistake

  • Members

ok so ive been flying a phantom 4 pro v2 for about 3 years now and honestly its been great but the thing is getting old and i keep seeing people talk about the evo 2 pro and the 6k camera and im starting to get tempted. my main use is real estate photography and some landscape stuff on weekends just for fun.

what i really cant figure out is whether the autel ecosystem is actually solid or if im going to regret leaving the dji world. like i know the phantom is kind of discontinued at this point and getting parts is getting harder. the evo 2 pro seems competitive on paper but paper specs dont always translate to real world results ya know. anyone made a similar switch and have thoughts either way? does the autel app actually work reliably or is it a mess compared to dji go

made basically this exact switch about 18 months ago, phantom 4 pro to evo 2 pro, and honestly i dont regret it. the image quality out of that 6k sensor is genuinely impressive, especially if youre shooting raw and doing your own processing. for real estate it really does hold up well in mixed lighting situations.

the autel sky app has gotten a lot better than it used to be ? early versions were kind of rough but they've put real work into it. still not as polished as dji fly but it does what you need it to do. main thing i'd warn you about is the obstacle avoidance isnt quite as confident feeling as what the phantom had, like it works but it feels a bit more conservative and will stop you in situations where the phantom wouldve just navigated through. not necessarily bad just different. oh and the battery life is legitimately good, regularly getting 35+ min in calm conditions.

im probably not the most qualified to compare since i started on autel and never flew dji but i can say the evo 2 pro has been totally solid for me. only thing that annoyed me is finding third party accessories takes more hunting around than it probably does for dji stuff. like nd filters specifically, theres fewer options and some of the cheap ones have fit issues. i use the kase filters now and they're good but took me a while to find them.
