so ive been building out a small indoor track in a warehouse space i rent with a couple buddies, maybe 60x40 feet which honestly isnt a ton of room but we make it work. the issue is im not sure how to think about gate spacing when youre working with this kind of limited footprint. right now we have like 8 gates set up and some of the turns feel really cramped, like you basically have to brake hard out of one gate and immediately set up for the next one which i thought would be fun but its just frustrating in practice especially for anyone who isnt already flying 5 inch rigs.

ive seen some MultiGP layouts online but those all seem designed for way bigger spaces. wondering if anyone has actually built a functional small indoor track and what your gate spacing looked like. do you just scale everything down proportionally or does that just make it feel bad to fly?

proportional scaling doesnt really work below a certain threshold, the physics dont care about your track size. what i found works better for tight spaces is thinking about it as a rhythm track rather than a speed track ? you want the pilot to be building flow through a sequence, not just trying to survive each section. so you actually want some of your gates to be very close on purpose, like a chicane or a slalom section, but then you balance it with one longer straight even if its only like 20 feet. gives pilots something to open up on and makes the close stuff feel intentional rather than just crammed in. also worth dropping to smaller gates if your usual ones feel overwhelming in the space, we use 18 inch gates indoors instead of the full 24s and it changes the whole feel.

yeah 60x40 is actually workable, ive flown in smaller lol. one thing we do is use a mix of gate types, like some low gates, some high hoops, forces people to change altitude and that adds perceived complexity without needing more horizontal space. also dont underestimate how much a single flag pole or barrel obstacle can change the feel of a section. but honestly just fly it a bunch times and move stuff around, no track is ever right on the first layout
