keep losing time in the sweeping sections, not sure what im doing wrong

been doing club racing for about a year now, mostly MultiGP local chapter stuff. im reasonably competitive on the tight technical sections and my lap times through the technical stuff are pretty close to the fast guys but i keep bleeding time on longer sweeping turns. like the wide arcing ones where theoretically you should be able to carry a ton of speed but for some reason i cant keep up through those. i thought it was a tune issue at first so i spent a while tweaking rates and filters but its not really changing anything meaningful. someone at the track told me its probably a throttle management thing but i dont fully understand what they meant by that. flying a 5 inch by the way, hyperlite frame, f7 stack, xing2 motors.

anyone dealt with this specifically? is there a drill i can do on a sim to work on it or is it just one of those things you have to feel out in real life

the throttle management thing is real and its probably exactly what it sounds like. on a sweeper youre basically trying to maintain constant radius while keeping airspeed up, and a lot of intermediate pilots either chop throttle entering the turn which kills momentum, or they hold too much and drift wide. what actually works is keeping throttle surprisingly consistent through the apex and using your roll input to shape the line rather than throttle. easier said than done but the sim actually is good for this, just pick a wide open course in velocidrone and do nothing but sweepers for like 20 mins a session. youll start to feel when youre bleeding speed vs carrying it. it took me probably two months before it clicked.

also check your rates arent too high for those sections ? sounds counterintuitive but if your roll rate is really aggressive it can make smooth arcing inputs harder to nail. i had a similar issue and turned my center sensitivity down a bit and it smoothed out my wider turns a lot. still snappy enough for the tight stuff but more manageable in the sweepers. might not be your issue but worth trying before you go too deep into the throttle technique rabbit hole
