ok so ive been trying to wrap my head around the EU drone regs for the past week and i think i was finally starting to understand the A1/A2/A3 open category stuff and now someone in another group is saying theres updates coming that change some of the weight thresholds or subcategory rules or something. i genuinely cant find a clear source on this and the EASA website is not exactly the most user friendly thing ive ever navigated.

im based in Germany and fly an Air 3 which i thought put me comfortably in A2 with my A2 CofC but now im second guessing everything. does anyone actually keep up with this stuff properly or know where to look for reliable updates that arent six months old by the time they get posted somewhere readable

the EASA rules thing is genuinely confusing and i feel like every country interprets the implementation slightly differently anyway which makes it worse. for Germany specifically i know the LBA site has some updated guidance but even that can be a bit behind. there are a couple of good YouTube channels that do English breakdowns of European regs ? dont remember the names off the top of my head but if you search for EU drone law you should find something recent enough to be useful.

your Air 3 in A2 sounds right to me assuming its under 4kg which it obviously is, but the operational conditions matter a lot too like how close youre flying to people etc. if youre staying 30m+ from uninvolved persons youre probably fine but definitely worth double checking with the current docs rather than taking my word for it

honestly the whole EU category system gave me a headache when i was studying for my A2 cert and it hasnt gotten clearer since. i just kind of fly conservatively and try not to do anything that would obviously raise eyebrows. probably not the most helpful answer but the rules change often enough that keeping up feels like a part time job
