first real flight with the Mavic 3 Classic ? some thoughts after a week

  • Members

so i finally pulled the trigger on the Mavic 3 Classic after going back and forth for like three months and honestly i dont know why i waited so long. came from a Mini 2 so the jump in image quality is pretty wild, the Hasselblad color profile takes some getting used to but once i started shooting in D-Log M and doing even basic color grading it just looks so much better than anything i was getting before.

had a bit of a scare on day two though ? was flying over a reservoir near my house and the wind picked up way faster than the forecast said it would. the drone was fighting pretty hard to hold position and i genuinely thought i was going to lose it for a second before i just brought it straight down and got it back. lesson learned, i check Windy app religiously now instead of trusting the weather app on my phone.

anyone have recommendations for ND filters? im using the stock ones that came with the kit but i keep reading that aftermarket ones can be worth it depending on what youre shooting. mostly doing landscape and some slow motion stuff.

the wind thing is so real, i had almost the exact same experience with my Mavic 3 Pro a few months in. Windy is genuinely the move, especially if you look at the altitude layers and not just surface wind ? i fly in hilly terrain and the difference between ground level and even 100m up can be pretty dramatic sometimes.

for ND filters i've been using the Freewell Versatile ND set for about a year now and honestly no complaints. they fit well, no noticeable color cast, and the price is reasonable. some people swear by NEEWER or Kase but i havent tried those personally. just avoid the really cheap no-name ones off amazon, had one that introduced a slight vignette and it was a pain to fix in post.
