ok so i finally went to one of those club fly-in things at a local RC field and i dunno. everyone was super nice dont get me wrong but theres a lot going on. like people are calling out when theyre taking off and there were frequency checks happening and i just kind of stood there for the first 20 minutes not sure what the ettiquette was. ended up flying for maybe 10 minutes total. think i need to go back a few times before it clicks but wanted to know if anyone else felt totally lost at their first group event or if i was just being weird about it

yeah totally normal, first time at a club field is a lot. the frequency thing is mostly a fixed wing holdover from the 72mhz days, most 2.4ghz stuff doesn't actually need it but older guys still do it out of habit. just watch a couple rounds before you fly next time and you'll pick up the unwritten rules pretty fast. everyone remembers being new even if they dont always act like it

i felt the exact same way lol. stood near my car for like half an hour pretending to prep my quad. eventually some guy just walked over and started asking about my build and after that it was fine. i think the hardest part is just that first conversation honestly, after that it loosens up a lot
