gimbal keeps drifting after firmware update ? anyone else?

  • Members

so i've been running a Gremsy T3V3 under my S1000+ for about 8 months with zero issues, genuinely one of the best setups ive had. then i did the firmware update two weeks ago because i figured why not, everything was working fine so i thought id keep it current. massive mistake apparently.

now the roll axis drifts maybe 3-4 degrees over the course of a flight, slow creep, not like a sudden jerk. the horizon is visibly off by the end of a 15 minute battery. ive recalibrated the IMU twice, done the motor calibration, reset the gimbal profile entirely. still doing it. the footage is basically unusable for the client work i had this week which was fun to explain.

has anyone seen this with Gremsy units after a firmware push? im wondering if its a PID issue that got changed in the update or if something in the motor tuning got wiped. i dont really want to roll back firmware if i can avoid it but im getting close to just doing that.

yeah the T3V3 had a bad update a while back too, different version but same symptom. the roll PID defaults got changed and for heavier payloads it just couldn't keep up. go into Gremsy Assistant and check your roll P gain, bet it got reset to something way lower than what you had. also check if the follow mode settings changed, sometimes an update will flip a toggle you didn't expect and it'll look like drift when it's actually just following the frame movement too aggressively.

if you have your old profile saved you can just push it back, takes like two minutes. i always export my profiles before any update now, learned that the hard way with a BaseCam unit years ago.

not the same gimbal but i had drift issues on my Zhiyun Crane after an update and it turned out one of the motor temps was running high and it was basically losing torque mid flight. probably not your issue but worth checking the motor temp readouts if Gremsy Assistant shows those. also what camera/lens combo are you running on it, payload balance can throw off the PIDs too if anything shifted.
