finally raced competitively for the first time and my tune felt completely different under pressure

ok so i finally entered an actual organized race last weekend after practicing on my own for like 8 months. i fly a 5 inch with kiss fc, fairly dialed tune that felt great in my field sessions, consistent lap times, pretty comfortable with the course layout we got sent beforehand.

get there and literally from the first heat something felt off. felt like my quad was twitching more, felt sluggish in corners compared to what im used to. finished dead last in two heats and just couldnt shake the feeling that something was wrong with the quad. swapped props between heat 2 and 3 and it helped a tiny bit but not much. after the event i went out and flew the same course again basically from memory and it felt totally fine again??

talking to one of the guys there he said something about how flying differently when nervous changes your stick inputs and the quad just feels foreign because youre not smooth. is that really all it is or should i be looking at something else, temp maybe, different interference at the venue, something.

100% the nerves thing is real and most people underestimate how much it affects inputs. when youre stressed you grip the controller tighter, your thumbs move in shorter choppier motions, and you start overcorrecting which makes the quad feel twitchy even if nothing changed. been there done that, first few comps i thought my quad was broken every single time and it never was. the fix honestly is just more race reps under any kind of pressure, even just flying with other people watching helps. some guys swear by flying a lower rate profile during comp so tiny input errors dont get amplified as much, worth trying.

interference is worth checking too though dont just write it off. crowded 5.8 environments at race events can be genuinely messy depending on how many people are pitting and running video tx at the same time. if your vtx was doing anything weird that could explain some of the sluggish feeling if you were losing image and microhesitating without realizing it. do you run any kind of DVR? would be interesting to see if theres video breakup in your race footage versus your solo sessions at the same spot
