Avata 2 vs original Avata - is the upgrade actually worth it for someone who mostly flies indoors

  • Members

so ive had the original Avata for about a year and a half now and honestly I love it for cruising around warehouses and the occasional outdoor stuff but my buddy keeps telling me to grab the Avata 2 and I just cant figure out if theres enough of a real-world difference to justify the cost

like on paper yeah the obstacle avoidance is better and the image quality bump is noticeable but indoors half of that doesnt even matter, I usually fly in manual S mode anyway so the stability stuff is kind of irrelevant for me. the battery life improvement is probably the thing I care about most tbh because I constantly feel like I'm swapping packs

anyone gone through this same decision or made the jump? curious what actually changed for you day to day and not just the spec sheet stuff

I made the jump about 4 months ago and honestly the battery difference alone was worth it for me. going from like 18 minutes to closer to 23 actual flight time doesnt sound huge but when youre running multiple packs in a session it adds up. the other thing nobody really talks about is how much smoother the prop guards feel now, the original ones always felt a bit flimsy and id clip a doorframe and watch the whole guard flex in a concerning way

for pure indoor flying though I'd say save your money unless you're doing anything paid. the footage upgrade is real but its not night and day unless you're doing proper post work on it

I went from OG Avata to Avata 2 and honestly the thing that surprised me most was the goggles pairing, way more reliable now. used to lose link randomly in metal buildings with the v1 setup and thats basically gone. might not apply to you depending on your environment but worth mentioning
