thinking about swapping to a heavier payload setup ? is the image quality jump actually worth it

been shooting on a Mavic 3 Pro for about a year and a half now, mostly real estate and some light commercial stuff. the 4/3 sensor on it is genuinely pretty good and i dont have many complaints day to day but ive been getting some bigger jobs lately where clients are asking about raw output and the limitations are starting to show, especially in high contrast situations where the shadow recovery just isnt there.

ive been looking at moving to something like the Inspire 3 with the X9-8K air or maybe even exploring the Sony ILX-LR1 on a third party platform, but that's a pretty significant jump in terms of cost, portability, and just the whole operational footprint. setting up takes way longer, you really need a second person to operate properly, insurance starts to get more complicated.

so my actual question is ? for people who have made this kind of jump from a prosumer integrated camera to a proper interchangeable lens system on a heavier platform, was it genuinely transformative or is it more of a marginal improvement that only matters in very specific situations. im not doubting the specs, i know the X9 is objectively better, but in real world shooting how often does it actually matter

honestly depends so much on what your clients are actually doing with the footage. if they're putting it on instagram or even broadcast TV at 1080p the Mavic 3 Pro is more than capable and nobody is going to tell the difference. where it starts to matter is large format display, high end commercial where you're doing serious grading, or if you need to crop aggressively in post for reframing. the dynamic range jump on the X9 is real though, shooting into sunrises and sunsets the difference is pretty noticeable.

the portability thing is real and i think people underestimate how much it changes your workflow. i rented an Inspire 2 setup for a job last year before i commited to buying anything and yeah the footage was beautiful but i spent like 45 minutes on setup and preflight for what would have been a 10 minute deployment with my Mavic. if you're doing quick turnaround real estate that overhead adds up fast. might be worth renting an Inspire 3 for a weekend before you decide, some of the rental places have them now
