finally pulled the trigger on a prebuilt, any BNF tips before i maiden it

ok so ive been building my own quads for like 3 years and always told myself id never buy a prebuilt but honestly after my last build ate my soldering iron and half a weekend i just caved and grabbed a Diatone Roma F5 V2. got it BNF with the Mamba stack and im planning to bind it to my TX16S tonight.

question is, are there any gotchas i should know before the first flight? like obvious stuff people skip because they assume you know. ive heard some of these come from the factory with trash PIDs and the VTX power set to something illegal depending on region. also not sure if i should trust the props they ship with or just swap them out immediately. i usually run HQProp 5x4.3x3 on my own builds so was thinking of just defaulting to those

any first-flight checklist stuff appreciated, or just general "this is what i wish someone told me" type advice

the VTX thing is real, check it before you even power it on outside. a lot of them ship at 400mW or sometimes 800mW and if you're in the US you're already over the limit on certain bands. just pull it up in the betaflight VTX tables and confirm the power level and frequency before anything else.

also yeah ditch the stock props, not because they're always terrible but because they're usually unbalanced from the factory and you'll get way cleaner video and smoother tune feeling with props you already know. save the stock ones as a backup or crash spares.

PIDs on the Roma F5 aren't actually awful out of the box compared to some others ive seen but run a rates check before you go full send, the default rates on Diatone stuff tends to be way too aggressive for most people

I went through the same thing last year with a different quad but similar situation. One thing that got me was the motor direction ? I just assumed they had it set up right and did not check props in props out configuration before maiden. Ended up having to redo it after the fact which wasn't a huge deal but annoying. Just verify everything in betaflight motors tab with props OFF before you ever arm it.
