so anyway i finally decided im gonna pull the trigger on my first drone but now im just staring at Amazon and DJI's website like an idiot for the past hour. theres so many versions of things and i dont know if the differences are actually worth it or just marketing. someone at work told me to get a DJI but didnt say which one and now im seeing theres like four different mini versions alone. i mostly want to use it on weekends hiking and camping, nothing crazy, just want some cool footage of scenery and maybe a few shots of me and my girlfriend on trails. is there like a clear winner for this kind of thing or does it really just depend

for hiking and camping the weight thing actually matters more than people think, like if youre already carrying a pack the last thing you want is a heavy drone case on top of that. the Mini series folds up pretty small which is nice. i take mine out on trails pretty regulary and the main thing i'd say is practice flying in a big open field a few times before you try anything near trees, wind channels in valleys and around hills can be pretty unpredictable and it'll catch you off guard if you havent flown much

the Mini 4 has omnidirectional obstacle avoidance which the Mini 2 SE doesnt, whether thats worth the price difference depends how nervous you are about crashing i guess

skip the amazon random brands, seriously. i made that mistake and the thing flew fine for like three weeks then the gimbal just started freaking out and customer support was a nightmare. just go DJI if youre spending real money, at least you know what youre getting and the app actually works. also the Mini 4 Pro does ActiveTrack which could be cool if you want shots of yourself hiking, it'll follow you automatically
