stretched X vs true X for 5inch ? does it actually matter for freestyle

  • Members

been trying to decide on a frame for my next build and ive been going back and forth on this for way too long honestly. i have a tallon stretch x right now and i like it but a buddy keeps telling me true X is better for freestyle because the props are more symmetrical in the airflow or something. i dont fully understand the aerodynamics argument he's making and when i look at pro freestylers they seem to use both so im not sure it actually matters in practice.

my flying is mostly park gaps and power loops, not super technical stuff yet. weight and durability matter more to me than outright performance at this point. anyone have strong feelings either way or is this one of those things where you just fly what you like

honestly at park gap and power loop level you are not going to feel the difference, full stop. the guys who swear by one or the other are either flying at a level where those margins mean something or they just got used to one and their brain tells them its better. true X has slightly more even prop wash characteristics in theory but in betaflight filtering tuning is going to have 10x more impact on how the quad feels than the frame geometry.

if durability is the priority look at arm thickness and whether replacements are easy to get. a 4mm arm true X that you can get replacement arms for cheap beats a 5mm stretch X where the frame company went out of business

i went from a stretched x to a true x last year and tbh the thing i noticed most was just the different visual footprint when i was lining up gaps, had nothing to do with how it flew. your buddy isnt wrong about the airflow stuff but its pretty marginal. what frame is he recomending specifically
