organized club fly-ins worth it or just a hassle

so i got invited to join the local AMA club and they do these monthly fly-ins at a sanctioned field about 40 minutes from me. i looked at the rules and they want you to have your registration sorted and follow their field rules which seem pretty strict, like no flying past certain hours, designated flight boxes, all that. i dunno, part of me just wants to keep flying in the open field near my house which is way more convenient but i guess the social aspect could be cool. have other people found these club events actually worth joining or is it mostly just older guys flying warbirds

honestly the warbird comment made me laugh because thats exactly what i expected and then showed up and yeah, mostly warbirds. but there were two or three guys flying sport quads and one of them knew way more about tuning betaflight than anyone ive found online. made one genuinely useful contact so i kept going. the structured rules got annoying at first but you kind of stop noticing after a while

the field access alone might be worth it depending on where you are. 40 mins is kind of far but if they have a proper runway and safety setup its way better than trying to find a legal spot on your own. the rules thing is whatever, most of it is just common sense stuff anyway. i'd say try one meetup before you fully commit to the membership fee
