ok so i bought a DJI Mini 2 SE last week because my cousin has one and makes it look super easy. i went out to try it yesterday in my backyard and honestly it was way more stressful than i expected. like i kept overcorrecting and it almost hit my fence twice. i didnt crash it but it was close.

i guess my question is... how long does it actually take to get comfortable with the controls? and is there anything specific i should be practicing or do i just keep flying until it clicks? i watched a few youtube videos before i went out but they make it look effortless and i felt like a complete idiot. also not sure if i should have altitude limits set or something while im still learning

honestly the first few flights are always rough, dont stress about it. the overcorrecting thing is super common, most people do it and it usually goes away after like 5-10 hours of stick time. the trick that helped me was just hovering in one spot for like 10 minutes straight before doing anything else, just getting a feel for how twitchy the sticks are. and yeah def use the altitude limit while youre learning, i think on the mini 2 se you can set it pretty low in the safety settings, maybe start at like 30 meters or even less just so you have less to worry about if something goes wrong.

took me probably 3 weekends before i stopped feeling like i was gonna crash every 30 seconds. backyard flying is actually harder than open fields because your brain gets weird about obstacles. if you can find a big empty park or a field with nobody around, that helps a lot more than cramped spaces when youre new. also cinematic mode or whatever they call the slow response mode on DJI slows down the stick sensitivity which genuinely makes learning easier, i wish i knew about that earlier
