so anyway i have an older Mavic Pro (the original one) and its still flying fine honestly but the thing is huge compared to what people are carrying around these days. i took it out last month on a camping trip and my buddy had some tiny thing that fit in his jacket pocket and the footage looked almost as good as mine and i felt kinda silly lugging around my whole backpack setup.

i dont really know whats changed in the last few years in this price range, ive kind of been out of the loop. not looking to spend more than like $700-800, mostly use it for landscape stuff and maybe some family vacation footage. nothing crazy. is the mini series the obvious answer here or am i missing something? also does anyone still fly the original Mavic Pro and is it worth keeping as a backup or should i just sell it

the mini series is probably exactly what youre looking for yeah. the Mini 4 Pro sits right in your budget (just barely depending on which combo you get) and its a massive leap from a 2017 Mavic Pro in almost every way ? better obstacle avoidance, way better low light performance, vertical shooting mode if you care about that. the original Mavic Pro was a great drone for its time but the sensor technology has moved on a lot.

id say sell the Mavic Pro now while it still has some value, they go for $200-300 on ebay depending on condition and accessories. use that toward the new one. keeping it as a backup sounds nice in theory but in practice most people just end up with an old drone sitting in a drawer collecting dust

honestly i kept my old Phantom 4 way too long for sentimental reasons and kind of regret not selling it sooner, market value just kept droping. not saying thats definitely gonna happen with your Mavic Pro but something to think about. also the size difference between current minis and that era of drones is genuinely wild, like you open the box and think there must be something missing
