so ive been doing some contract work for a couple farms nearby and they want orthomosaic maps and NDVI stuff for crop health monitoring. i've been using DroneDeploy on a trial and it's honestly pretty slick for field ops, the automated flight planning is dead simple and the cloud processing means i don't have to babysit my laptop for 4 hours.
but a guy i know keeps saying Pix4D is way more accurate and that DD cuts corners on the point cloud quality. i haven't done a proper side by side so i cant really tell yet. the thing is Pix4D is like significantly more expensive if you're going the subscription route and im not sure the accuracy difference even matters for what these farmers actually need ? they just want to know where their fields are stressed, not submillimeter GCP accuracy.
anyone actually run both on the same dataset or similar conditions? curious if the price jump is justified or if im just getting upsold on precision i dont need
