ok so ive been flying Mavics for a few years, got pretty comfortable with the 3 Pro, and im looking to get into something more cinematic and dynamic. been going back and forth between the Avata and the original DJI FPV drone for like two months now and i keep going in circles

the Avata seems more beginner friendly with the cinewhoop design and the prop guards but ive read the manual mode on it is kind of limited compared to the FPV? and the FPV drone feels like a bigger jump from what im used to but also like the more capable machine. i mostly want to do cinematic stuff around architecture and some outdoor flying, not racing or anything super aggressive

also does the Avata 2 change anything here or is the original still worth buying used at this point. genuinely cant figure out which direction to make sense for someone at my level

for cinematic architecture stuff the Avata honestly fits better imo. the cinewhoop form factor means you can get into tighter spaces, fly closer to surfaces without panicking, and the footage has that immersive low and slow look that works really well for buildings. the manual mode is limited yes but if youre not trying to do flips and dives you probably wont miss it that much starting out

the FPV drone is faster and more free-feeling but its also bigger, louder, and way less forgiving if you make a mistake. coming from a Mavic the muscle memory for how that thing handles is basically useless ? its a completely different experience. ive seen a lot of people buy the FPV drone and then not really fly it much because the learning curve hit them harder than expected

Avata 2 is worth it over the original if youre buying new, better battery life and the image quality stepped up noticeably. original is fine used if the price is right

tbh i think people overstate how hard the FPV drone is. if youre already comfortable flying and you spend some time in a simulator first its not that bad. but yeah for what you described, slow architectural cinematic stuff, the Avata does make more practical sense just based on the use case
