After a crash, my Mavic Air 2 gimbal was making grinding noises and the camera feed was intermittent. Diagnosis showed a torn ribbon cable inside the gimbal housing. Before attempting this repair, understand that 70% of post-crash gimbal issues stem from simple problems like disconnected cables, and most don't require replacing the entire unit.

Use anti-static precautions - these cables are extremely sensitive
Document cable routing with photos before disconnection
Never force connections - if a component resists removal, recheck for hidden screws as forcing parts can crack the gimbal housing.
