so ive been going back and forth on this for like two months now and i cant make up my mind. i currently have a Mini 2 which i love but the camera is starting to feel a bit limiting especially when i try to shoot in the evening or in cloudy conditions. the footage just gets noisy fast.

i mostly fly on weekends, nothing professional, just travel stuff and some local landscapes. my budget can stretch to the Air 3 but its a significant jump and i keep asking myself if im actually going to notice the difference in my final edits or if ill just convince myself i do because i spent more money lol.

the omnidirectional obstacle avoidance on the Air 3 is tempting but honestly how often do i actually need that vs just flying carefully. and the Mini 3 Pro has the vertical shooting mode which i actually use a lot for instagram stuff. has anyone switched between these two and had a clear "oh yeah this was the right call" moment

I made exactly this switch last year ? had a Mini 2, went straight to the Air 3 and skipped the Mini 3 Pro entirely. The low light difference is genuinely noticeable, not in a placebo way. The 1/1.3 inch sensor on the Air 3 pulls in a lot more detail in that golden hour to dusk window where the Mini 2 just starts falling apart. If you shoot a lot in flat or overcast light you'll feel it.

That said the Mini 3 Pro is not a bad drone, not even close. If weight is ever a factor for you ? like hiking into locations or traveling with carry-on only ? staying under 249g actually matters more than people admit. The Air 3 is noticeably heavier in the bag. For pure weekend casual use I honestly think either would make you happy, but if you're already feeling the Mini 2's limits in low light the Air 3 is the more future-proof call.

im in a similar boat tbh, been eyeing the Mini 3 Pro because of the no registration thing in most countries which is nice when your traveling. the vertical mode is clutch for reels i agree. but my friend has the Air 3 and when we fly side by side the footage just looks... richer? hard to explain. anyway i dont think you can go wrong either way, just depends if that extra chunk of cash hurts or not lol
